About
Essence has been a Therapist for 2 years; prior, she worked for DCF for 5 years. She has worked as a clinician in CSS and ATS programs and was a clinical manager at a homeless shelter for 2 years. She is well-rounded and can work with any age group. She has extensive experience in treating grief & loss, depression, anxiety, and family counseling. She finds success practicing CBT & DBT therapy, which are types of treatment that focus on changing your behavior by analyzing your thoughts. She places focus on the value of gaining self-awareness and works to help you achieve that. Her favorite modality is Person-Centered because she believes that we are all the leaders of our own lives and authors of our own stories. She prefers to let clients lead their own therapy sessions but knows that it is hard to open up at first, so she will sometimes come to sessions with activities. Essence loves to travel and make memories with her family. She has been on vacation 23 times, and Her favorite place to go is Puerto Rico.

Why you are passionate about your job?
Essence deeply desires to help others and impact people's lives during the most vulnerable times. She expressed her thoughts about when she needed someone and said she would like to be the person who shows up for people when they have no one. She prides herself on being relatable and trying to understand people, what they've been through, and how it can shape who they are today.
