VICTORY BAY
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
Medication Assisted Treatment, also known as MAT, uses specific prescription medications—to help our clients sustain their recovery. It works by reducing cravings, blocking the effects of opioids, or normalizing brain chemistry. When used during addiction treatment, MAT combined with counseling, behavioral therapy, and 12 steps modality helps individuals sustain long-term recovery.
About Medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
Victory Bay clients in recovery from alcohol abuse or opioid abuse have choices for medication-assisted treatment to sustain long-term recovery. Vivitrol is an extended-release monthly injection. It is helpful for clients struggling with either Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) or Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). Vivitrol works for individuals with opioid abuse by blocking the effects of opiates, therefore reducing cravings and desire to use. Revia (Naltrexone) is a helpful oral medication to reduce cravings for opioids. Vivitrol can be used for individuals with alcohol abuse as well, but its mechanism of action is different. Vivitrol works on the brain's pleasure center and reduces cravings.
Oral medications for alcohol abuse include Revia (Naltrexone) and Campral (Acamprosate), among others. Revia works on the brain's pleasure center and reduces cravings for alcohol by uncoupling the pleasure or reward one's brain receives with alcohol consumption. Campral helps to reduce the brain's dependence on alcohol which can reduce cravings and subsequent relapse.
Our medical team is committed to ensuring sustained recovery. Each client entering Victory Bay will meet with our doctors for a thorough assessment and discussion about medications to help them maintain their recovery so that they can make informed choices.
