About Adderall Use & Addiction

Adderall is a combination stimulant drug that includes amphetamine as well as dextroamphetamine. It is commonly prescribed to those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or narcolepsy. In smaller doses, the drug can be helpful in treating these conditions, however, in larger doses, it can be highly addictive.
Also called the "study drug," Adderall has a reputation for improving alertness and focus. However, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, an estimated 6.4% of college students between the ages of 18 and 22 have used Adderall recreationally, and many have developed a substance dependence.

The Dangers of Adderall

Adderall can also be known as “beans,” “black beauties,” “pep pills,” “speed,” or “uppers.” An Adderall abuse can produce a euphoric high similar to cocaine or methamphetamine and symptoms of this high include:

  • Improved alertness and/or focus.
  • A feeling of euphoria.
  • Increased libido.
  • Improved cognitive control.
  • Increased muscle strength.
