About Cocaine Use

Although health care providers can use cocaine for medical purposes, it’s considered an illegal drug that is also highly addicting. Cocaine goes by several street names, including “blow,” “coke,” “rock,” as well as “snow,” and the drug can be snorted, rubbed into the gums, or dissolved in water and injected.

Of course, cocaine addiction is a serious issue. For example, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), there were an estimated 1.5 million cocaine users aged 12 or older in 2014. Also, adults aged 18-25 have a higher rate of cocaine use than any other age group.

The Dangers of Cocaine Addiction

Symptoms

Cocaine increases levels of dopamine in the brain – a natural chemical that controls pleasure as well as movement. When this happens, users have a positive experience and often want more of the drug soon after their high has worn down. For example, symptoms that can lead to a need for addiction treatment programs include:

Extreme happiness.
Increased energy.
Hypersensitivity to sound, touch, and/or sight.
Metal alertness.
A euphoric state.
Increased self-confidence.

Dangers & Effects

As a street drug, cocaine looks like a fine, white, powder and can be mixed with things like cornstarch, talcum powder, flour, or even more dangerous substances like amphetamines. Regular use of this drug can cause users to seek a cocaine addiction treatment center due to negative short-term effects like:

Irritability
Paranoia

High body temperature and/or blood pressure.

Withdrawal

When a person does stop using (such as during cocaine rehabilitation), their withdrawal symptoms are often less physical than withdrawal symptoms associated with other drugs. For example, cocaine withdrawal symptoms include:

Fatigue
Tremors
Vivid nightmares
Anhedonia (the inability to feel pleasure).
Muscle aches
Slowed thinking
Low energy

What to Expect

Arrival to our facility

We will begin by coordinating your arrival to our facility. Victory Bay will work with you to ensure you are transported safely and quickly to our well-maintained facility. Once you have arrived at the center, you can expect to be greeted by our professional addiction treatment staff who will be expecting your arrival. If you are hungry – or maybe a little nervous – you can expect to receive a welcome meal, snack and a drink.

Intake

You will meet our Intake Coordinator, who will sit with you and begin the process by doing some basic assessments and paperwork. You will be scheduled to meet with your own personal Clinical Therapist with whom you will work with throughout your time here. Also, you will be scheduled to meet with one of our incredible Doctors to assess your specific needs.

Finally, with early sobriety, often comes lots of chaos in our lives. Our team will assess any and all areas of your life where you might need support and guidance. Our Case Management team will begin to plan a strategy for supporting you with any Legal, Employment, or Educational needs.
